ESC 2015 FINLAND: #UMK15 REVIEWS vol.3 - NORLAN EL MISIONARIO - NO VOY A LLORAR POR TI

The reviews continue with something very un-Finnish and the first ever song in the Finnish national selection in Spanish, No voy a llorar por ti written by Oldrich Gonzales and Norlan Leygonier Santana. Norlan started his career in Havanna, Cuba in the 1990's and was one of the local hip hop pioneers. 2005 he packed his reggaeton and moved to Finland and got nicknamed El Misionario. In 2008 he won OurVision (a contest born in the aftermath of Lordi's win in 2006 for immigrants in Finland). He released and album and Sauna caliente became a minor hit. He's prepairing his third album and working as a DJ, most recently warming up Enrique Iglesias in his Helsinki gig. He also organizes popular Club Sauna Caliente nights already for eight years. He mixes in his party music Latin and Caribian rhythms. He says his victory would show Europe the multicultural Finland and Latin music works everywhere....
Timo: Well, this is just the latin style I don,t like – of course this would fish out a few points from Spanish-speaking areas (err... Spain??). The first 5 seconds were still promising but then it flopped 2/5

Michele: Only a new and ingenious sound could make me  give a positive vote. I do not like the genre, it is not original and for the entry in Spanish I wait for the entry from Spain. The Eurovision is an opportunity for me to learn about local cultures. Finland = Spanish? No, thanks! 1/5

Jack: 'No voy a llorar por ti' isn't among my favourites but it's okay. Could work live but could also be a disaster... A non-qualifier at the moment but I wouldn't mind seeing him in the final. Not a winner. 3/5

Blogilkar: As much as I like Latin music and have a fondness for Cuba and I kinda like this song something is missing. Or is it just misplaced? It's not very original, one of those 13 in a dozen but wouldn't be at all out of place in some compilation of relaxed Caribian sounds album. Eurovision? Simple just not strong enough and most of all wrong country. When I go to Cuba I'm more than happy to have this playing in the background when I sip my Cuba Libre.  2/5

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Kuunkuiskaajat in Russia!

Kuunkuiskaajat are performing tomorrow in Russia in Sosnogorsk Rock Festival 2010. Apparently the festival has something to do with Finno-Ugric culture and Komi.... I have to investigate that a bit more. Anyways, way to go girls! Meanwhile here they are a couple of weeks ago in Helsinki's Korjaamo .

EUROVISION 2024: BLOGILKAR'S HOME JURY RESULTS REVEAL - PLACES 20. - 25.

Another year, another Home Jury. And mind you, never ever before the results have been so surprising and I must honestly admit so not in line with my own likes and dislikes but what can I do, they have spoken. We voted with scores from 1 to 10 and this year also the scores are all time low and without a runaway winner. Ties were broken by highest individual scores. This year our unprofessional, mildly interested, regular Eurovision viewers included people in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. Both sexes, various locations in Finland added with our exotic Peruvian member to spice things up a little. I will count down the whole ranking in coming days from bottom to the top so please do follow up and comment if you like. Let's go! Next up are the places 20. to 25. All qualify for the final except Belgium that misses out....  20. ESTONIA  4,75 21. SLOVENIA  4,75 22. AUSTRIA  4,63 23. LITHUANIA  4,63 24. SERBIA  4,63 25. BELGIUM  4,50

EUROVISION 2024: THE TURQUOISE CARPET FLOP - WHAT'S GOING ON IN MALMÖ?

Oh what a let down. Something is going on in Malmö 2024 Eurovision and I'm not sure we can blame it all on Israel. Not only have the rehearsals been more blinded than ever (then again, I'm all for closed doors rehearsals mind you), a big percentage of volunteers declining to come to work after all, the Eurovision street pretty much cancelled due to artists pulling out and so far the images from Eurovision Village have been sadly amusing in their emptiness and nothingness! I tried to watch the stream later. I ended up jumping ahead having a peak here and there and indeed it was useless nonsense. Where was fun? Glamour? Show? It was not Eurovision, it was like interviewing some reality tv wannabes before they kick off for some random reality adventure. Boring.  And now the much awaited Turquoise carpet. Blame the weather but what an earth was that? After the grandeur of Torino and Liverpool that was.... nothing. No fans allowed anywhere near, and the interviews conducted in an an

EUROVISION 2024: BLOGILKAR'S OWN TOP-10

Ok, it's time to reveal my own personal ranking this year. The first song I heard was France and it has stayed the clear number one for me all this time, and I still think it can win it all - maybe not winning neither the jury nor the televotes but ending up winning as a compromise. The other that still moves me every time I hear it, and I just like still as much as the first impact is Ukraine. Italy and Croatia were on top ever since they won their national finals and Albania was my favorite in FiK and even if it took awhile for me to adjust to the new version I still like it a lot. United Kingdom didn't impress that much at first but has been climbing all the time. Azerbaijan was a favorite as well right away while Switzerland took some time to appreciate while Luxemburg and Austria in the end made my top-10.  A special mention bubbling under are Belgium, Netherlands, San Marino, Spain, Lithuania and Israel not forgetting Ireland and Australia.  1. FRANCE - Slimane - Mon amou
