ESC 2016: FURIOUS RUSSIA DEMANDS A BOYCOTT OF UKRAINE

Telegraph writes lenghty about the Russian reactions to be beaten by Ukraine.
While Ukrainians basked in their Eurovision win on Sunday, Russian officials and Kremlin-friendly media offered up a string of conspiracy theories to explain the win of Crimean Tatar singer Jamala, whose song “1944” was largely seen as a jab at the Kremlin. And some officials said Russia should boycott the song contest next year, if it is set to be held in Ukraine.
The song contest took on major political overtones this year, as Ukraine's Jamala squared off against Russian singer Sergei Lazarev in a showdown that many Eurovision fans saw as a continuation of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. When Ukraine beat Russia 531 points versus 491, Russia's state-run media seemed to have a hard time coming to terms with it.
Interviewing Lazarev after he came in third, Russia's state-run television channels presented him as the “champion,” apparently hinting that the official results did not matter. Soon after, the hashtag “Lazarev is our winner” began trending on Russian Twitter. Kremlin-controlled media quickly went into overdrive in attempting to smear the contest, with RT running a bizarre piece titled "Eurovision Song Contest funded by TV license fee system that criminalizes poor people."
The sore reaction wasn't limited to social media and media outlets, however. Even Filipp Kirkorov seemed to have a hard time being gracious in the wake of Russia's defeat. While acknowledging that Jamala was the winner, Kirkorov said the new voting system used in the contest was to blame for her win, claiming that Lazarev should have really won. Russian officials quickly began to dismiss Jamala's win as unfair and illegitimate.
Russian lawmaker Yelena Drapeko blamed Russia's loss on the "information war" being waged against the country, a claim that was echoed by Russian television channels.

"Partly, this is a result of the propaganda and information war that is being waged against Russia. We are talking about the general demonization of Russia – about how everything with us is bad, about how our athletes are all doping (well, aren't they? Ed.note), our planes are violating airspace (well, they are! Ed.note) – all of this, of course, shows (in Eurovision),” Drapeko said in comments to Russia's TASS news agency.

Alexei Pushkov, the head of the State Dumas Foreign Affairs Committee, lamented that Eurovision had “turned into a field for political battles” on Twitter, a thinly veiled criticism of organizers for allowing Jamala to perform a song with political themes. In early March, Russian officials sought to persuade Eurovision organizers to ban Jamala's song, arguing that it was a politicized attempt to make Russia look bad for its policies in Crimea and the subsequent conflict with Ukraine. Organizers disagreed, however, and let Jamala perform the highly charged song.

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

MALTA: THE QUEEN OF L-GHANJA TAL-POPLU - CORAZÓN MIZZI!

If The Travellers have proven recently one can do great singing in Maltese there's also someone else doing great stuff: Corazón Mizzi. While in Malta I was looking for some Maltese CDs only to find out they pretty much don't exist, and the most helpful staff in legendary D'Amato - probably the world's oldest record store today - suggested me Corazón's Hawn jien (2014 album). Having nothing else really to bring home I decided to go or it without even realizing it is the Corazón from Maltese Eurovision selections. And what a find it was! Thank you D'Amato! But let's start from the obvious: Eurovision. Corazón has been offering us songs in the Maltese Eurovision selection since 2009, actually making her best result this year with Falling glass , one of my favorites btw. I also liked last year's Secretly but that failed even the final. But Corazón's true calling is singer-songwriter in Maltese as this excellent album clearly shows. We have al

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )
