THE MOST READ POSTS - WHAT DID YOU READ IN 2016?

The 2016 has been a very kind year to this blog. Half a million hits makes me feel extremely happy and humble, especially when I have had a more relaxed approach and not taking all this so serious anymore, just doing my own thing without thinking about competing with any other blog. On the contrary. I thank you each and everyone who turn up over and over again and keep following me. Let's hope 2017 will be kind to all of us, fullfill some dreams along the way and give us many memorable and happy moments..... and some great new songs and artists in Kyiv 2017.
But let's get back to this blog. No doubt Marco Mengoni is the king. Most every post about him has done very well and the one on September 25 is the most read of the year. Other good names to post what comes to hits have been Amir, Måns Zelmerlöw, Douwe Bob, Sergey Lazarev, Il Volo and Alice & France Battiato. The choice not to follow Saara Aalto's adventures in X Factor was deliberate.
My Malta series inspired by my visit and wonderful holidays on the island was a success, too. Two posts occupy the year's second and third most read ones: the one about Corazon Mizzi, and the one about Chiara and Ludwig Galea at the Qormi Wine Festival.
Also the Christmas calendar "fillers" have been extremely popular, something I never thought would be. Now that's and idea to bring back in 2017 and develop further.
Other posts that I would like to highlight are the ones about Kyiv 2017 preparations, the iTunes predictions for 2016 final, #ESC250 chart and OGAE Second Chance contest ones.
And as always, sex sells and nudity interests. And this year we have had Sergey Lazarev, Måns Zelmerlöw, Ivan and Douwe Bob all in the nude - and all posts have been hits by the readers - or should I say voyeurs? You know who you are....

1. Marco Mengoni - New album and European tour
2. Chiara and Ludwig shine at Qormi wine festival
3. Corazon Mizzi - The Queen of L-Ghanja tal-Poplu
4. What does the iTunes predict for tomorrow?
5. Ivan naked with wolfes?

SAN MARINO: TONY MAIELLO WITH 500.000 EUROS FOR EUROVISION?

This curious post was released yesterday by Tony Maiello:
"I have been proposed to represent San Marino in the Eurovision, all is needed to have 500.000 euros for "promotion".
Just to be sure I have asked if they wanted it in cash or if a card will do."

That's a free translation of that curious post. Apparently he wasn't impressed and one can only wonder why he comes out with such a thing now....
Aaah, his new album, first in six years, is coming out shortly. Any pubblicity is good. Even Eurovision. So this blogger does his part....Things have really changed in Italy if even the Eurovision card is playable these days  :-) (And yes, hours later the comment came from SMRTV "We've never heard of Tony Maiello")
Who is Tony? He did X Factor finishing 4th and then Sanremo where he won Newcomers in 2010. And that's just about the last we have heard of him as a singer really. He's been writing songs to others including Laura Pausini, Francesco Renga and Lorenzo Fragola but his solo career really hasn't taken off.
Last year he was badmouthing Sanremo saying it's all business and one has to pay to get there, and they don't want him and one could have the most beautiful song in the world and wouldn't get in if he didn't have a sponsor and money etc. Maybe true. but that's how it works. Everyone knows it.
Sour anyone? After all the free publicity he shouldn't be.

Il Fatto Quitidiano has made a story about it with what seems the messages between Tony and the mysterious contact, have a look after the jump....

MONTENEGRO: IT'S SLAVKO KALEZIC FOR EUROVISION

Montenegro has announced Slavko Kalezić (31) of X Factor fame to their represant in Kyiv 2017 Eurovision song contest. He's also an actor in both stage and film. He certainly looks and sounds like an interesting choice. I suppose we are into a visual treat this year..... His entry Space will be revealed later.
Be sure to check out his X Factor Adria audition that was something ... else...
Apparently he didn't get that far but ended up being a replacement host -
only to be replaced himself again?!?

FINLAND: HERE ARE THE EMMA GAALA FEMALE ARTIST NOMINEES

Last but not least, here are the nominees for the Female Artist of the Year. One real veteran, one recordbreaking looking for a trple, two who have gone solo from succesful duos and one that whose talent has blossomed in Vain elämää and will do amazing things in the future...
I guess it's predictable this goes to Vesala, as Sanni winning it again would be a bit boooring. Kaija Koo might surprise but most likely not. I'd give this to Suvi Teräsniska, she has proven to be not only loved by public but also being a Talent in Vain elämää. Amazing singer and voice. Go Suvi!

Erin (ex-Nylon Beat) returned to her successful solo career after three years of silence and two kids. Her solo debut back in 2011 sold triple platinum and had several hits, the second one sold platinum and gave her more hits and this one released last month has already Sydäntä särkee and Kohta hänen. Maija Vilkkumaa has been involved in writing this album.
Kaija Koo's success continues with songs written by Maija Vilkkumaa, Erin, Paula Vesala, VilleGalle and Ellinoora among others. She's been around for 30 years and more popular than ever. Siniset tikkaat was #1 in radioplay and #2 in download, Nää yöt ei anna armoo #1 in download and #6 in the official singles chart.
Sanni won this award in 2014 and 2015, maybe she'll do triple? Three platinum albums in three years. Three top-2 hits this year: Että mitähän vittua (she made a new streaming record in a day in Finland with this, over 300.000 in the day of release), Vahinko and Oo se kun oot, and the latest Ku Kanye Kanyee. She also took part in Vain elämää that made her known in all age groups and showcased she's much more than just a pop artist with a blue hair and provocative lyrics.
Suvi Teräsniska did Vain elämää and conquered new audiences of those who thought she's just a schlager singer, got married, had two babies and returned with a new updated sound and more personal  #1 album. No need for videos or singles, she still sells albums....
Vesala aka Paula Vesala, ex-PMMP, ex-wife of The Rasmus' Lauri has been studying in the US, written countless songs to other artists after PMMP (one of the most succesful bands in Finland ever) was over, acted succesfully in the movies, did Vain elämää.... and finally released her solo album this year with hits Tequila (#4, radio #1), Tytöt ei soita kitaraa (radio #7), En tunne sua (from Elastinen Feat.), Älä droppaa mun tunnelmaa (#5, radio #2) and Ei pysty hengittää

OGAE SONG CONTEST 2016: ALVARO SOLER WINS FOR SPAIN

The oldest OGAE fans organized contest, OGAE Song contest has come to its 30th edition this year and is doing better than ever. Wolrdclass acts like Adele, Delta Goodrem, Mariza and Enya battling it out along with Eurovision stars Anna Vissi, Dina Garipova, Sirusho, Amir, Kati Wolf, Eva Boto, Marija Serifovic, Lena Philipsson, Daniel Kajmakoski, Helena Paparizou and Softengine and all the others the local clubs have chosen to represent themselves. A total of 28 great songs to choose from - what would be a better past time? You can listen to all the entries here and have a look at the voting here
The past few years the victories have all went to same nations: United Kingdom (2009, 2010, 2011), Spain (2013, 2016) and France (2014, 2015), only Italy breaking the trend in 2012. And these four countries do have the most wins ever in the contest anyways. At least the Big5 is ruling here....
One can only wish and hope Alvaro Soler would be one of the shortlisted and invited artists to the Spanish Eurovision national final next year....  Dreaming.....
Alvaro Soler, Catalan (25) speaks seven languages, went to school in Japan, has dueted with Jennifer Lopez and Emma Marrone, been the judge in X Factor Italy and has scored the hit of the summer two years in a row now - wouldn't it be cool the third one would be the Spanish entry?

FINLAND: EMMA GAALA NOMINEES FOR THE MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Emma Gaala's Male artist of the Year nominees include some names from various reality music tv programmes, rappers and a surprise. I would give this one out to Mikael Gabriel as icing on the cake for his fabulous year and marvelous metamorposis.

Lauri Tähkä started his succesful year with a Elastinen duet (read more below) Lempo, Then he released an album that went straight to #1, scored a hit with Morsian (radioplay #1), followed it with hits from the Vain elämää reality tv-series, including Kipua (#2), a Mikael Gabriel cover, Minun Suomeni, Lauri, Elastinen, Mikael - all are here nominated.

Mikael Gabriel really broke through this year. He's been around but as "just another rapper" but his latest album did well featuring #2 single Helium. Then he became the nation's sweetheart against all odds in Vain elämää. His personality made us all fall in love with him a little, and adopt him as nation's own son. He scored the most hits from the series with two number ones (Lauri Tähkä's Pauhaava sydän and Hector's classic Lumi teki enkelin eteiseen. His Chisu cover Mun koti ei oo täällä went to #3 and Suvi Teräsniska's Tyhjässä huoneessa to #4.
In 2017 he will go on his first tour as a headliner after many collaborations over the years with other better known bigger names.

Elastinen dominated the television and charts earlier this year with his reality Elastinen feat. where he met up with other artist, spent some time together and later they got together to write and perform a song together in a day. Most of them made appearance in the charts, and two even made it to #1 (Lempo with Lauri Tähkä and Täytyy jaksaa with comedian Sami Hedberg) and one #2 (Oota mua with Johanna Kurkela). As did the album. All that follows the success of his 2015 album. He's been everywhere as writer, producer, label boss, featured artist, judge.... always a big grin on his face making him one of the most positive personalities around.

Olavi Uusivirta is a wellknown name as singer, songwriter and actor. He released already his seventh album this year and has made a name as a great live artist. His fame and success has been steadily rising since the start and now finally he scored a #1 album. Tanssit vaikka et osaa did well in the radios and download chart, and other songs like Kultaa hiuksissa, Toinen and Päiväperho kept him on the radio waves for the rest of the year. Still, he's inclusion with the nominees is a bit of a surprise but a welcome one.

Nikka Ankara is one of the biggest stars in Finland if you only look at the Spotify streams: over 50 million streams and seven platinum singles in about two years! In that period he has already had time to announce withdrawel from the business, only to make a comeback stronger than ever some time after. Ettei nyt vaan sattuis mitään went to #1, Mona Lisa #2, Pisamat #5 and En tiiä sun nimee #4 in the official singles chart. Not really my cup pf tea but then, he's a bit like Mikael Gabriel - he's been as fetured artist everywhere with the big names and I wouldn't be surprised if he follows Cheek, Elastinen, VilleGalle and Mikael Gabriel to Vain elämää cast next time that will make him a household name and lift his career to a new dimension.

FINLAND: THE EMMA GAALA NEWCOMER NOMINEES

These are the nominess for the Newcomer of the year Emma, aka Finnish Grammy. Some real talent here and quite a few questionable ones, IMHO. But what do I know?

Alma (20) made herself known in Idols three years ago where she finished 5th but then disappeared from the spotlight. She kept working and exploded this year with Karma, Bonfire and Dye my hair both nationally and internationally. Her debut album will be released in 2017 and the expectations are high, both by public and critics. Interesting talent indeed. She should just walk this category.
Arttu Lindeman (20) is a videoblogger and rap artist. Thanks to his huge following in web he has scored four Spotify #1s this year with Läikkyy, Faijas, Menee tunteisiin and Hukutaan. Fans like, critics don't. I don't.
Evelina (21), like Alma, made her first appearance in a talent show, The Voice. She didn't get that far and it took a few years and she was back; ready and succesful. She scored her first #1 (Honey) in late 2015 and this year the success has continued with Sireenit (#1), Sushi (#3), Ei filtterii (#2) and Fuulaa (#16) and #3 album. She can sing, but all her recorded music is autotuned to death. Why?
Ellinoora (22) has been around for a few years now, and got a record deal already at 17. The music she was made to do didn't feel right and the album was dropped and the work started anew, the way she wanted it. The result was released only this fall and six singles have been released from it: Ei hävittävää, Minä elän (#18), Carrie (#5), Leijonakuningas (#6), Rakkauden kesä (#29) and Elefantin paino (#5). The platinum selling album went to #2. I think she sounds a bit too much like so amny other popular female singers already. There are so many.....
Lucas (17) was spotted when singing at school and soon he was in the studio. He released his debut album this year (#7) and already six singles off it in 2015-2016: Aurinkoo, Täydellisen epätäydellinen, Kauniita yhdessä, 101 prosenttia (#27), Jäätyy and Sun takii. He hasn't quite managed to cut away the public from Robin or Isac Elliott as propably planned....
Töölön Ketterä is a duo by producer Handshaking and rapper Matti Kasi. They have released two EPs this year with songs like Kiska kiinni and Kipee, and single Ludoo. Never heard of them, and never listened to them either. Why are they here?

ITALY: TIZIANO FERRO IN SANREMO 2017

Carlo Conti has announced the first Italian super guest star in Sanremo festival 2017: Tiziano Ferro. He will perform the first night, just like he did already in 2015.
Six studio albums, all but the debut, number ones in Italy. Millions of albums sold all over the world, especially in Latin America, seven Italian number one singles and 20 top-10 ones, countless gold, platinum and multiplatinum records in Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria... Collaborations with other big names (check out the videos below), songs written to artists like Alice and Giusy Ferreri, Baby K and Blue....
He has come out, been proud and written a book about it. He's survived depression and gotten over medication. He's got Grammy nominations. He has lived in Mexico and Manchester. He has toured sold out stadiums. Sung in Italian, Spanish, English and French. A superstar indeed, but wouldn't it be nice to have him compete instead? And do Eurovision while at it.....
Check out after the jump some of his duets....
