FINLAND: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JASMINE

Jasmine turns 41 today. Her Eurovision adventure in 1996 was full of drama; in the national final her microphone didn't work and she had to sing again. Then the voting failed and the winner was revealed only days after. She made it to the Eurovision from the pre-selection as the last one kicking out Germany and Israel for example after a tie with Hungary. Then in the final she had the hair disaster and started singing in a wrong place. All this said, it's a jolly lovely little tune she recorded in many languages and far better than its reputation. Jasmine did gigs abroad and released two albums and then vanished from the spotlight only to emerge later in some YLE's Romani programmes....
Congratulations!

MALTA: STEAMY EUROVISION SCANDAL NOVEL COMING UP - ARE YOU READY?

You may know Gerard James Borg as the Maltese songwriter (six entries to date plus one Russian and countless national final entries) but he's a lot more; concept creator, reviewer, writer.... He has written two novels so far: Sliema Wifes and Madliena married men, both overnight successes and with titles like that this blogger thinks I need to get them! Unputdownable (sounds like an entry he might have written) as described by popular local online magazine.
But now folks, it's going to get even saucier. #Morethanyouimagine. Behind the scenes drama of Malta's most popular song contest, drugs, sex, drama, scandals - more than you imagine!
Being published in October! Santa, hello?

and some of my favourite Borg songs below

SUMMER SOUNDS FROM JIMMIE WILSON, TIM SCHOU, ISAIAH AND EDWARD SANDA FT. IOANA IGNAT

The most Detroitian Sammarinese Jimmie Wilson is back with Give me 5, and after hearing this you will never high five the same way again. Try it and you automatically start singing this song.....
Tim Schou is also back after a while with a very intense song. Morrison. The video is also very suggestive. Worth a listen. And watch.
Isaiah has released a music video for his Streets of gold. Unlike Tim's this has not much of an idea in it, just Isaiah here and there including Eurovision, a puzzle of his streets of gold.
The song is sweet though.
Romanian newcomers have joined forces and Do pe a te by Edward Sanda and Ioana Ignat is very catchy and fresh, with a nostalgic looking video to go with it. If only Romania send something like this Eurovision for a change! Great job!

EUROVISION 2018: TOURISTS WILL PAY THE CONTEST WITH TAX

The tourist tax - one euro per night - introduced in Lisbon last year will be used to cover the costs of Eurovision song contest 2018, says Lisbon Mayor Fernando Medina. The city already earned 13,5 million euros in 2016 thanks to this fee, and with the rising number of visitors and booming tourism this year the sum is surely going to be even bigger.
The same system is used in many cities and countries under various names like hotel tax etc but this is propably the first time it is used openly to finance some major event.
RTP CEO Gonçalo Reis says they're excited but understand the responsability and complexity, grandeur and the requisities they are facing, but they will make the most of it. It's a huge window and opportunity to Portuguese music industry and RTP to showcase themselves internationally.Yet the contest will be one of the most economical of the recent years, but he won't go into budget details yet.
Meanwhile 27 countries have confirmed their  participation in Lisbon 2018:
Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, and there's no need to think Albania,  Australia, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Netherlands and United Kingdom wouldn't participate.
This blogger remembers Lex Carola, some extra tax on Swedes in 1991-1992 to cover up the costs of the Eurovision 1992, but this times it's the tourists paying.
